My Life With Transformers

In 1986, something great happened in Planet Earth. The invasion of robots of Autobots and Decepticons into Planet Earth's TV sets. Yet, all this happened when the Americans discovered the robots of Diaclone Robots of Takara Japan in early 80s. They were amazed by how the toy could transformed from cars, trucks and even insects into robots.

From the toys, they came out with 3 pilot episodes of Transformers. It was a huge success! From there, the rest was history. The Transformers invade planet Earth.

Unlike many rich kids, I couldn't afford a Transformer toy when I was a kid. I could only play my neighbour's toys. Throughout my childhood I never owned a Transformers toy, only a few Thundercats toys.

The introduction of the Transformers (cartoon) the movie back then brought more attention to the series. From there, the series eventually went unpopular in years later on.

The series that came with Generation 2, Beast wars and Beast machines. Only then when Car Robots series were shown, it caught my attention again. My supported my younger brother to collect the series where later I got addicted to it.

I started my Transformers collections 6-7 years ago. Getting the right book to keep intact what to get and also hooked on eBay for the more vintage collections. From toys collecting, I met lots of collectors and fans. Many that wouldn't believe how huge my collections was.

As time goes by, I joined Transmy, Malaysia's Biggest Transformers Fan Club. Later on, they made me a moderator.

At the peak of my Transformers collecting, I had around 600 pieces of different Transformers toys. I sold partial of them out as it put a lot of weight on my credit card bill.

I was once interviewed by TV3's Remaja for my toys collecting passion. Something that I'm very proud of until today.

*Me being Optimus Prime wannabe with real Soundwave transformed to a mp3 player!

In 2005, a big news hit the Transformers fandom. A movie shall be made for Transformers. Millions of Transformers fans talked about it. The first initial director for the movie was Steven Spielberg! Everyone was happy when the rumors spread out. Yet, until Michael Bay (a non Transformers fan) announced as the director, many opposed. During the initial planning stages, some fans eventually hacked to Bay's computer and retrieved the original artwork of Transformers The Movie. The artwork then spreaded across the Internet and millions of Transformers couldn't believe what they've seen! Abuses and hate mails were then hurled to Michael Bay.

Yet, when the movie screened in 2007, it became an overnight success. Within the first few weeks, the trilogy was announced. Michael Bay didn't let the millions of Transformers fans down unlike Dragonball's James Wong. He revolutionised Transformers.

At the same time, United International Pictures Malaysia brought the movie in for the local fans. Without UIP, there's no Transformers The Movie in Malaysia. I'm really grateful because I watched the movie the same week as in US. In fact, I watched it a few days earlier in the Transformers Premiere organized by UIP for Transmy. In return, Transmy collaborated with UIP to produce the FIRST Robotcon in Malaysia at CineLeisure.

Local collectors (includes me) brought our toys to Robotcon to showcase our toys to the local public. We hired our own security guards to guard the "love of our lives".

The movie's success also brought another problem. The shortage of the toys. Thousands of movie lovers flocked to local toy stores to find that most of the toys were sold out.

People queued and rushed to any shop that had the toys. This was taken at a local toy shop and many were waiting for the Transformers toys.

Of course, I got prepared and had mine...

So then, Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen is coming by end month. I'm getting ready to watch the movie multiple times again.

And also I already made my move and purchased some of the Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen toys.

This could be my longest post I did in my blog.

After so many years, I still can't get enough of Transformers! Will UIP nice enough to give me some tickets for the Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen Premiere Tickets as well as the toys?

It will all depends on them.

But at the mean time, I'll get entertain by my beloved Bumblebee....

With over 190,000 hits on Youtube, MY Bumblebee still sings to me!

It has just released in the market last week. A must have for G1 / Generation 1 collector like me. Released by Tomy Takara.

Transformers Henkei Hound And Ravage Tomy Takara

Probably the hardest to get in the whole entire Henkei series. I had been very low profile on my Transformers collection lately. I had sold quite a number of my collections but I do keep up with a few collections as well. Stay tuned, more toys will be revealed.

Dragonball Z Super Battle Collection No. 18 Gotenks Bandai

The normal version of Gotenks. Gotenks are transformation of Go Ten (son of Son Goku) and Trunks (son of Vegeta). Made by Bandai, I got this from a warehouse sale few years ago.

I loved this character in manga particularly against evil Majinbu. A different of variety of combo moves with Picollo.

There are newer version of this issued by Bandai. More articulations.

Transformers Energon Wing Saber Hasbro

There isn't much to talk to about this guy. Another Energon character that price went up after the Transformers the movie came out. One of the harder character to get in the series. Capable to powerlink with most of the other Autobots.

I sold it at the end of the day. I only had this micromaster combiner alone, so I felt weird and I sold it off. Too bad the prices for this shot up so high lately.

Transformers Energon Grimlock & Swoop

I never really seen this in the series as I didn't really finish the series anyways. The deal is sometimes when you relate to Grimlock and Swoop, the toy will be a HOT item. This twin pack was fast sold out in the market. If lucky enough, toy shops might had it in a slightly higher price.

I had this for a while before I sold it last year. I prefer the vintage Dinobots than this.

Takara's Energon SC-01 Grand Convoy. 1 of the most hideous Optimus Prime ever made.
The Energon series came after Armada series which I missed it. I would say this is the weakest Prime we've seen in time. Sold this piece last year, I got an extra Hasbro piece.

Transformers Classic Twin Pack Jetfire Grimlock Hasbro

Jetfire and Grimlock was released individually at first. However, later on, they were released together in a Twin Pack exclusive at a slightly lower price.

The box itself is already a beauty.

The front panels can be open to reveal the 2 robot mode of Jetfire and Grimlock.

The bad part is Tomy Takara Henkei has started to re-release the classic and universe series with additional chrome parts. Henkei series looks more promising.

I'm selling it off, I'll keep the Tomy Takara Henkei version.

Transformers Universe Aerialbots Superion Hasbro

Hasbro re-issued Micromaster Aerialbot's Superion under Transformers Universe line a few years ago.
Earlier than this, they released Defensor as well. Nothing much to talk about this. To think about it, the price for the full set is a bit pricy for the size of the toy.

Transformers Alternators no. 10, WindCharger (Honda S2000). Surprisingly I got this at a very good price. It was a few years back. Alternators were not that popular at the moment, I would say it was Binaltech era. However, when collectors found out about paint chips caused by Binaltech's die cast, Alternators price sky rocketed.

Transformers Galaxy Force Flame Convoy (Scourge) Takara

Takara's Flame Convoy or Scourge by Hasbro. A triple changer from robot mode to single head or triple head flaming dragon. It is first issued by Takara before the series made to US. Later on a whole line of Cybertron from Hasbro issued based on Galaxy Force. After the released of Hasbro, Takara version became more popular and pricy too. Recently, it is reissued again under Transformers Universe's Bruticus. A blue version was made under Hasbro named Cyro-Scourge.

There's 2 Swindles in the Transformers Alternators Line. This is the earlier version. There will be another "bowl" box version released as well. Swindle is actually a repaint of Hound version. However, both this 2 characters are extremely unpopular among Transformers collectors. Most likely because of its Jeep mode.

I sold this last year, clearing off all my Alternators line.

Transformers Binaltech Asterisk 01 Alert with AI + 02 Sunstreaker with Junko. It's suppose to have a set of 3. However I managed to purchase 2 of them. Due to the success of the binaltech series, Takara experimented with a new line called Asterisk with 3 figures. Asterisk line came with a small girl PVC figure. Takara seeing the success of Binaltech was trying to tap to a different market. The results? It was a big flop. The whole idea was dropped and instead Kiss line was created after that.

I sold 2 of them after I decided to clear all my Alternators and Binaltech series.

This is another reissue by Hasbro by adding a Cybertron Key to the character. Cybertron Optimus Prime is issued during the Galaxy Force, / Cybertron era. This is an extension line of Cybertron and Hasbro had been making a "few" extra characters to sell under this line before the Transformers the movie.

Transformers G1 Cyclonus

It has been a while. As you can see my Cyclonus is incomplete without the gun. I never really like Cyclonus when I was a kid. There is no official reissue of Cyclonus known yet. There are rumours of China bootleg version surfaced few years back. The joints for this figure are relatively easy to get loose in years time, especially the arms. No metal die cast on this figure.

Transformers Universe 25th Anniversary Superion Giftset

The reason this blog has been quite quiet because I stop getting new collections for a while. Lots of new Transformers Universe line has been flooding the market. Most of them are repaints. I think I reached a point that I knew that I needed to stop. It was too much reissues and repaints.

Thank god, there is great friend who got me Transformers for my Xmas.

Yes, the box condition is at least C-8 and above.... It is made by Takara in Japan, 1980....

Shell James Bond 007 Cars Collections

Shell came out with a more interesting cars collections lately that got my attention straight away.

The most striking part is the metal case briefcase of the collections with one sided glass..

The 5 cars of Bond.... Sunbeam Alpine 5, Lotus Esprit, Aston Martin DB5, BMW Z3 Roadster and of course Aston Martin DBS....

Some might argue this collections are small... but to me, it suits my James Bond Bag!

Tomy Takara Music Label Soundblaster Black Review

I had this for some time and I opened it recently. There are 3 colors on this music label: white, blue and black. Mine is the black soundblaster!!

I transformed it to the robot mode....

And I did use it for a Halloween party lately..

My review goes... Paint work is horrible. Sound quality is bad... too much bass. Everything is in plastic. Mini-SD card is getting rare, getting one now is tough.

If it's not a transformer, I wouldn't get this seriously. However for the price below US 50, I think it is still okay.

Transformers Optimus Prime Voice Changer

Been lazy and didn't play much toys lately...

Let me talk a bit about this voice changer thing. I got this like last year and didn't manage to play it until yesterday. Since I had my experience with the Vader helmet so I expect this as good as the Vader one. Yet, this is a good one.

Toynami Voltron Collection Series Review

Well.. Voltron was one of my fav tv shows and getting this set shouldn't be so surprising...

It got a nice box set, but when I carry it, I knew there's no die cast to it.

The 5 lions...

This part where they really screwed this up. 2 lions are smaller than the rest to make arms of Voltron. The paints are sloppy and the joints are not that good. I had problems putting the legs of the black lion.

This is my first Voltron, I love it very much. Yet I have to make a few complains. The paint job is bad, not diecast and the joints are horrible...

But for the price of 2xx can you argue for it? Made in China...

Interactive EVE (Wall-E)

There are so many EVE to choose. Sometimes its hard to choose when it comes to choices.
I brought her back and light her up!

I'm playing with her. Calling her and she responds! EVE is so good girl. Now, she has to "jaga" my rumah.... I wish...

Well as this is an interactive toy. EVE basically can responds depending on your voice tone. Since I love the movie so much so... I bought the toy... :P

Getting this Animated craze is not my whole idea. My first hand on Ratchet like the other Animated as its quite identical to G1. There are 4 weapons. Things I noticed, since I transform this without manual. When pushing the head in, transforming to van mode, becareful. I stuck the head into and can't take it out. I sense that I stuck it wrongly or the infamous spring problem. Since I reviewed this at the toy shop, I didn't rectify this head problem as I didn't have my screwdriver set with me. Just becareful on this. Other than that, there's nothing much to worry about. Paintjob is so so depending your luck I guess. Like I said, its a decent piece with the price you paying for.

I thought this review is just a plain normal Transformers review but I was wrong. During the transformations, mishap has happened. I broke 2 clips, which really pissed me off. One clip off the ramp and another inner clip of the jet broke as well. Both can be fixed thru extra duty super glue. As much as I love to play this, I forgot this monster is 20 years old vintage toy.

The transformation is quite straight forward but remember to put on powermaster during some tranformation or else like me clip will get broken.

The smaller parts are the ones easier to lose. As I started this piece from scratch, I managed to salvage most of the parts from ebay, still left a few though. I'm glad what I have right now and happy to say its a decent piece.

TF Animated Jazz Review

Remember G1 Jazz? Quite resemblance?Jazz with his nunchakus!

Much has been said about this Animated series toys. The transformation is pretty okay. Not that simple and not that tough. The paint job is decent, quite a bit of articulation compare to G1 or G2 of course. With the price you paying for a deluxe, do not expect any great near perfect toy u going to get especially everything is made in China nowadays. In fact I'm pretty happy to review this Jazz as its quite identical to G1 Jazz and its cute features. The 2 nunchakus weapons are quite cool as well. I guess my money is now starting with Animated series....

Amazingly the new Tomy Takara's version is not disappoint as I thought. I have the old ToyBox version so I have something to compare with. I heard about defects on this so I pulled this out and see it for myself. So nothing much to complain and I should say it could match the vintage Toybox edition. I am really surprised indeed. With the price such low, this is a must grab product. As I say, my fav G1 toy.

I love the green chrome but I still prefer the original G1 blue color. G2 series are mostly produced in China. This is no exception but the quality is still there yet. Not till lately though. Insignia is replaced by just a normal Autobot logo paint on.

Another reason that I'm getting this set because I have gave all my previous wrestling collections to my brother. Getting this lot is kinda sentimental. With pricing less than RM 400, one should understand that lots of vintage G1 might be reissuing after all! Nevertheless, how long is one coming to another?

It took me a while to think and consider of getting this nice planes. Well, after a good offer, I bought them all. Well, I must say it is my first Mospeada stuffs and Aoshima is famous for its craftmanship and quality.

To my surprise, it does give me the fragile feel when I transformed this monster. I have been very careful to the toy and the workmanship is not as good as expected. It diecast and the details of the aircraft is good. The joints are not as good as it looks though. One thing for sure is in robot, it is hard to stand nicely.

Anyhow this is always one of the better pieces before? Its Mospeada anyways!

When I head of this coming out, I was reluctant to buy... until I saw the pack, I just bought it straight away. The box is damn huge. The biggest movie toy box, bigger than Ultimate Bumblebee. Well as usual they repaint Arcee and Prime in this. A must BUY!

Second thing about this would be the price, its retail price is reasonable and I heard its Cosco Exclusive?

Ultraman!!! The passion ignites my fire or should I say I'm losing control? Got these 3 huge Ultraman from a toy seller at a very reasonable price. I am happy to say that sometimes there are people willing to help me for my collections but is it a good thing or a bad thing? Little that I know that Ultraman is a very expensive toy as well. It says it all, Limited Edition!! Its Region 3 and not Region 1. Disc 2 is nice with lots of backstage talking with Spielberg and Bay. There are so many reasons voiced out for the production of Transformers. No deleted scenes are detected so far. Quality is top class!
